Mexico Cuisinico: La Torta

In Mexico, Una Torta, refers to a sandwich either served hot or cold. In some of our brotherly Latino countries, Torta, usually means cake. Mexicans eat a lot of bread via Tortas and pastries. Even though the carb lead goes to corn tortillas, but Tortas are a big part of Mexican cuisine. For example in Guadalajara Tortas Ahogadas (smothered sandwiches) are very popular. In Mexico City and other close regions, La Torta de Jamon con Frijoles (ham and beans) is where it’s at! In Puebla, Tortas are filled with Chicken Mole, Spicy Tinga, Picadillo and other stew-like dishes. Where would we be without bread?
